Geomechanics for Geo-energy Applications (GGA)

Contains 6 courses, starting from October 2023, happening every other month, 5-Day Online Course, 9:00 am – 12:00 PM, Mountain Time (MT)

This comprehensive program focuses on the application of geomechanics principles in various geo-energy contexts, including enhanced geothermal systems (EGS), carbon sequestration, and underground energy storage. By participating in this program, individuals will gain the knowledge necessary to make well-informed engineering decisions, ensuring the safe and efficient extraction and storage of energy resources. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will be equipped to ensure the stability and integrity of geo-energy operations. They will possess a strong foundation in geomechanics principles, enabling them to excel in their professional pursuits. The program consists of the following six courses:

  1. Fundamentals of Geomechanics for Geo-energy Applications
  2. Advances in Geomechanical Filed and Laboratory Investigations
  3. Geomechanical Modeling and Simulation
  4. Geomechanics Aspects of Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS)
  5. Geomechanics Aspects of Geologic CO2 Sequestration
  6. Geomechanics Aspects of Underground Energy Storage

The inaugural course, “Fundamentals of Geomechanics for Geo-energy Applications”, is scheduled for October 2-6, 2023. Participating in this foundational course is strongly recommended, as it lays the groundwork for understanding the subsequent specialized courses. It’s worth noting that each course is designed to be independent, and participants will receive individual certificates upon completing each course.

Furthermore, individuals who successfully complete all six courses within a maximum period of two years will be awarded a program certificate. This certificate signifies a comprehensive mastery of the program’s content and a readiness to apply geomechanics principles effectively in real-world scenarios.
